Life in the Corrèze

We have lived in the Corrèze, located in the heart of France, since 2006.

It’s fair to say that we decided on this beautiful area almost by accident. When we started house-hunting in France, we focused our attention further south around the Lot Valley. However, one day the estate agent offered us the opportunity to visit properties in the Limousin region.

It did not take long for us to realise that we had found what we were looking for in the Corrèze department: plenty of unspoilt countryside, large forests, rivers, lakes and spectacular scenery. We were living in Torquay at the time, a town that is vibrant but heavily built up and busy 24/7. In the Corrèze, we could enjoy a quiet and peaceful lifestyle, with lots of places to walk our dogs in the surrounding woods and fields.

Since we moved here all those years ago, Andrea and I have discovered several great places to visit. Andrea’s favourite is Suc au May, where it is possible to see the snow on the Massif Central and Cantal mountains and appreciate the amazing views far into the distance, from the panoramic viewpoint at 908mts.

From our home, it is less than two hours’ drive to Le Mont-Dore and the Puy de Sancy in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a ski resort located on the Massif Central. The town is also a popular spa resort due to its thermal springs; it is a superb area for walking, too. We often take a cable car up to the Puy de Sancy, before taking a (not exactly) leisurely walk back. Although all downhill it is quite a hard walk!

Of course, currently due to the confinement our travelling is very limited at the present – like it is for all of you. Nevertheless, it is important to dream of better days ahead… and to recognise why we love this area so much.
