Jon and Joel on a carpet tour! 

Recently my son Joel and I recently returned from a busy week in the UK.

Joel has been working in the family business for a couple of years now and is gaining lots of useful and first-hand experience working in the trade. However, Joel is keen to do further training, so our UK visit saw him completing a two-day Estimating & Planning course in Loughborough, followed by a Sales and Installation programme at the Roger Oates factory.

Later in the week, Joel and I both went along to Abingdon Flooring for a site visit. Abingdon has invested significantly in recent years in its huge carpet and flooring manufacturing plant, and now has state-of-the-art machinery which is streamlining the entire production process. It’s extremely efficient – and furthermore makes great carpet.

Festival is a good example of Abingdon’s new carpet ranges. The deep pile carpet comes in twelve different colours and features Abingdon Flooring’s Fleece Backing that gives extra comfort.

Joel enjoyed his time at the Roger Oates HQ in Eastnor near Hereford. The training has given him the confidence and skills to work on stair runner carpet projects which are of course popular with our clients… I am confident that he will be fitting plenty more in the future….

Joel’s training does not stop there, though! Later this summer he will be back to Loughborough for a four-day carpet fitting course, which I know will be extremely valuable and help his development.
